Race description
The Schalmloop Mariënheem is a popular winter cross-country race that has been part of Mariënheem’s sporting winter calendar since 1986. The race takes place around the Boetelerveld nature reserve, on a recently renewed course consisting of more than 80% unpaved paths and muddy sections. Since 2024, the start has been at Kinderopvang ’t Schoapie, improving accessibility and atmosphere. The Schalmloop offers distances for all ages and is known for its challenging, varied nature route with gentle elevation changes. The event promises a friendly, active winter day outdoors.

The Schalmloop offers several distances: 1.3 km (start 11:45), 2.6 km (start 11:25), 5.2 km (start 12:00) and 10.7 km (start 10:00). The start is at Kinderopvang ’t Schoapie, Raamsweg 47A. More than 80% of the course is unpaved and it can be deceptively slippery depending on the weather. The short loops make the event appealing to spectators.
