KNRM West Coast Challenge

The KNRM West Coast Challenge is a unique one-day endurance event in which teams of two take turns running and cycling over 130 kilometres from Hoek van Holland to Den Helder, almost entirely along the beach. There is also a 62-kilometre Half Challenge for pairs and solo entrants; solo entrants may be accompanied by a cyclist. The event raises funds for the KNRM, with all proceeds going towards its rescue work. The Full Challenge starts on 12 December 2026 at 04:30 and the Half Challenge at 11:00. The atmosphere is friendly, and participants are encouraged to strengthen their connection with the KNRM.

Participants must find their own route because the course is unmarked. Front and rear bicycle lights are mandatory in the dark (04:30–08:00 and from 17:00). If beach conditions are poor, the cyclist may ride through the dunes. There is a reserve date of 16 January 2027 in case of bad weather. The Half Challenge starts at 11:00 at restaurant Sea You in Velsen-Noord. Teams can choose to pay the full fee or pay half price by organising a fundraising campaign through samenvoorknrm.nl. Registration is confirmed after payment or after reaching the fundraising target. The event follows a run-bike-run format and has a strong focus on fundraising for the KNRM.
